Welcome New Members: Since our last Newsletter we have received two new memberships ... William Payne and Walter Lawings. Welcome aboard, gentlemen!
Meetings: The July meeting of the Executive Committee is Tuesday 6 July 2010. The July business meeting is Tuesday 20 July 2010. Both meetings are at 1900 hours at our range / clubhouse on West 18th Street in Port Angeles. The membership is encouraged to attend both meetings! There was no regular EXCOM meeting held in June. The June business meeting was held Tuesday 15 June 2010. Howard Blair reported that 3 people turned out for the First Step basic firearms training on 12 June. Ed Phillips plans to complete the new exhaust fan sound deadening covers soon. A recent security problem was reviewed and the membership is again encouraged to carefully follow the "LOCKING THE BUILDING CHECKLIST" when leaving the range. Range Safety Officer training is scheduled for Saturday 25 June 2010 and then not scheduled again until September 2010. President Eric Foth recognized member Bill Sallee for his faithful production of spreadsheets with range firing data. Bill's work has reduced our shooting data to a format which allows us to track rounds per firing point and rounds per club member. This, in turn, allows the club leadership to predict maintenance frequency and costs associated with that. Thank you, Bill!! Following the regular business meeting, EXCOM members held a short special meeting and decided to change the way a quorum is constituted for business meetings. Since our Bylaws require a minimum of 15% of our voting members to be present in order for a quorum to exist, the EXCOM decision will now count each family membership as one voting member as well as each individual membership as one voting member. Previous to this, we counted each family membership as two voting members and that made quorums hard to come by at some meetings.
Light Rifle Match: Attendance at these matches has been too low to sustain the matches and no matches are currently scheduled.
Silhouette Pistol Match: No matches scheduled.
Rimfire Pistol: Howard Blair will continue to open the range at 1800 hours on Tuesday night.
Club Officer Positions: Club Officers are elected annually and consist of President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Executive Officer. The Bylaws require nominations to be submitted by or before the end of the November business meeting and the election is held at the annual meeting in December with no nominations allowed from the floor. It has traditionally been difficult to identify qualified and dedicated members for these positions which has resulted in some positions filled by the same person for years. This year, both the Treasurer (Dave Miller) and the Executive Officer (Ed Phillips) plan to step down and the Secretary (Mike Stenger) is pondering the possibility.
